Rochelle’s story

I have faced many challenges in my life. I try to learn from every challenge. Because people often see me as a strong, beautiful and/or hard-working woman, they think that everything works by itself. But that’s not true. I’ve been keeping a lot of plates spinning for years, but I work hard for it.

“I have faced many challenges in my life.”

I am entrepreneur, ex, girlfriend, mother, partner, housewife, daughter and also Rochelle. Since 5 years I have a nice partner again. Besides my three children, 9 year old twins and an 18 year old daughter from two different fathers. I have owned a beauty salon with 10 staff members. Bankrupted, luckily not at the bank, after which I worked for 10 years at Zadkine College as a grooming teacher.

In the past 45 years I have often felt alone. Life goes with major ups and downs for me. I have learned that you always have to pull yourself out of the depths. In life, you have to put up the bunting yourself. You have to do it yourself, sometimes by simply seeking help. Due to my divorces I have lost friends. People who let me down, never asked me how you are or offered help. I have often felt alone because of this. Didn’t feel accepted or understood.

But by standing in my power and staying true to myself. I have become who I am today What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

Have you ever been or are you currently excluded from society?

Yes, I think it’s part of life. Joy, disappointment, sadness, fear, anger and surprise are closely related. The question is how do you deal with this. And how do you become aware of this. I think it’s a bit of a mindset and then mainly a matter of doing!

I always try to respect everyone, to listen and to be open minded. That doesn’t mean it’s always easy and always works. But I think listening to other people’s stories and feelings is very important.

Life motto Rochelle

Knowledge is power and sharing knowledge is strength.

Super power

I always try to stay close to myself. Every day I wake up with a positive attitude, while putting on my make up I smile in the mirror to start the day right. I am cheerful, spontaneous, impulsive, a go-getter, naughty and independent and always try to shine.

Inclusive society according to Rochelle

That everyone feels free, is valued, does not judge, listens, learns, inspires and above all is open-minded. Everyone is unique.

In action with Samen Solidair

I think connection, togetherness and inclusion are important. For me this comes naturally, I don’t have to put in much effort.

In my career I have mainly dealt with connection and inclusion. The person who is in my treatment chair can be whoever he or she is. Whether you have a skin disease, physical or mental problems. I listen to every customer and empower him or her.

Connecting with positive people, people you can learn from who can inspire you to grow.

What do you think people can do to be Together in Solidarity?

Being aware of your own behaviour, knowing that how you think and what you do can have an impact on the other person.

Try to get out of your comfort zone and ask a person questions before you make a judgment that may be based on nothing. By asking questions, you really get to know someone.
